Preview for this weekends MSA British Rallycross round 5 in association with Monster Energy is here, and also on the website at rallycrossuk Round 5 MSA British Rallycross in association with Monster Energy Maasmechelen Circuit, Belgium This weekend sees crews in the British Rallycross Championship make their way across the channel to visit the Duivelsberg Circuit to contest the fifth round of the 2013 Championship. To date it has been an interesting championship with no one really stamping their authority in the MSA Supercar division and winning. Leader Julian Godfrey (Ford Fiesta) has a clear advantage though, from consistent finishing in the points when it matters, and he travels over with a 21 point lead over Jon B Hrolfsson (Subaru Impreza) hoping to maintain this form, though would be delighted to win. Julian said “ It’s a good track at Maasmechelen, and should suit us, but we will be thinking of the championship. It’s a good Supercar entry though, and it should make for a good battle.” Eight points separate the next four places, and include the likes of Pat Doran (Citroen DS3) who will be fresh from appearances at Pikes Peak Hillclimb and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. “Mad Mark” (Citroen Xsara T16) will also compete following an appearance at Silverstone recently where he helped promote British Rallycross at the MSA Go Motorsport event, and both Andy Grant and Steve Harris are scheduled to appear at the Belgian event. An additional bonus appears in the form of Knockhill winner, Andy Scott who is scheduled to appear in the Albatec Racing Peugeot 208 along with the return of Lydden winner Kevin Procter (Ford Focus) as well as an appearance by Irishman Derek Jobb (Ford Escort Cosworth). Speaking last week Scott said “I’m very excited about racing at Maasmechelen, as we’ve achieved some strong results there in the past. The Peugeot 208 has shown great potential in its first few months of development, with heat wins and a strong lap pace particularly over the last few rounds, and racing in Belgium offers valuable track time to progress further. The BMW Mini has four entries as of this date, fifteen points separating the top four and includes Tony Lynch, Kris and Keifer Hudson and David Bell. At the Go Motorsport event recently Lynch admitted that he likes the circuit and said, “It’s always nice to go to Europe, and I like the Maasmechelen track a lot. It’s good for the championship to go over and there is always a great atmosphere.” In the HotHatch John Lyne and Craig Lomax (Citroen Saxo’s) hold a clear lead over Tomasz Wielgosz (Peugeot 106GTi) and all three are entered along with the likes of Darren Clark (Saxo), Nick Potter (Saxo) and Slawomir Woloch to continue the battle in Belgium. IN the MSA SuperNational Gary Simpson (BMW M3) is the leading entry, and currently second overall in the Championship, while other entries include Gary Dixon (Astra GTE), Todd Crooks (BMW Cooper S) and Stuart Emery in the UK Battery Sales backed Peugeot 206. The RX150’s have a great entry in for this round and Marc Scott will be attempting to maintain his 100% record of wins this year. Scott has been in superb form at each circuit and in all conditions, and he will be the man to beat this weekend. Ollie O’Donovan makes a rare appearance and should get close to Scott, while Steve Hill, Jake and Brett Harris will ensure that the battles remain good. Kevin Feeney who has been very consistent so far this year should be capable of a podium finish. Andy Gwynne and Fons Picavet are the entries so far in the Super1600 in a Citroen and Suzuki respectively. The SwiftSport Rallycross has received a healthy set of entries and these include leader Graham Rodemark. Rodemark has had the speed all year and remains the man to beat following strong performances at each round so far. Tristan Ovenden and Phil Sherwood will be close at hand to make sure that Rodemark does not have it all his own way, and with the likes of Rob Maynard and Johnny Bean also entered it will be a fascinating battle to see who comes out on top.
