Ms. Lower practices in the multi-disciplinary area of employment, discrimination and labor law, providing counsel, evaluation, and representation appertaining to a full range of employment and labor-related and discrimination matters. Ms. Lower defends and prosecutes actions on behalf of a variety of employers and employees in federal and state courts and in state and federal administrative agencies. With approximately thirty years of experience in employment, discrimination, and labor law, Ms. Lower has represented both employers and employee under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; the Americans with Disabilities Act; the Family and Medical Leave Act; the Age Discrimination in Employment Act; the Illinois Human Rights Act; the Fair Labor Standards Act; the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Employee Retirement Income Security Act; the National Labor Relations Act; the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act; the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act; the Fair Housing Act; Title IV of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; and the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act. Ms. Lower also handles employment-related contract and tort actions [i.e., defamation, interference with contractual relationship, whistle-blowing, termination in violation of public policy, etc.] as well as contract claims regarding diverse legal matters arising out of the employment context. Ms. Lower reviews and drafts employment policies, handbooks and employment/severance agreements and has negotiated settlements through mediation, arbitration, and other cost-effective means of resolving claims and disputes.
