Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the government has established the right for everyone to be called a Fijian. Bainimarama says no matter where one comes from or whatever their faith Fijian is a national identify for all citizens. “It’s a wonderful time to be a Fijian as we set our sights on a united future with all the possibility that holds for us and for all for future generations” Bainimarama was speaking at the Diwali celebrations in Lautoka last night where he emphasized religious tolerance and acceptance of other faiths. “It is indeed a matter of great personal and national pride how openly we embrace each other’s different religions and how readily we include those of different faiths in our observances. Such acceptance and understanding is one of the brightest lights in our national life.” Diwali will be celebrated on Thursday and is an annual Hindu festival that is celebrated around the country.
