Prince and The Revolution: Purple Rain was the first album I ever - TopicsExpress

Prince and The Revolution: Purple Rain was the first album I ever bought. It was the summer of 1984 and I was 13-years-old. I saw that cassette (Yes, CASSETTE!!) at the Sears in the Intercity Shopping Centre in Thunder Bay and didnt quite understand why I thought that cover looked cool, but I just knew it was. I wanted to be Prince. I wanted that hair, that motorcycle and most of all that hot chick who played the guitar (Wendy. Sorry, Lisa). I played that cassette on an actual tape recorder that I hung from the door knob of our kitchen/living room door for about three days straight before my Mom came home with a brand new Walkman. I thought it was because she loved me, but in hindsight it was most likely because she loved silence :-) This video is insane, incredible and as the original poster puts it; Like watching Da Vinci paint the Mona Lisa! After I watched this, I closed my eyes and listened to it again. I could swear I had been transported 30 years into the past and I was that confused/excited/pimply/weirdo kid enjoying his last summer before he started his first year at Lakeview High. Most of those teen years were shit (No body understood me!!), but damn if Prince AND The Revolution didnt make those years easier. Well... Prince and the girls of Thunder Bay and the surrounding area who had low self esteem :-p
