Prison visit was a fascinating mix. On the one hand, of course epically intriguing to be seeing this slice of life in this place. On the other, depressing of course. Our visit was with a leading poet/performer who has had some ups and downs (in this time for forging a check, thankfully getting out next week). He was so nice, so generous of his time and heart, and his heart was obviously down because, well, prison. My escort there is a friend of his and a passionate artist and arts advocate here, afterward he took us to his gallery and showed us amazing things. Best day yet. And Carnival is tomorrow.
