Prizes worth a total estimated value of $700 will be awarded to thirty-four costume contest winners at the end of the parade, including Eisenhower silver dollars to eight lucky winners. The coins are generously donated by Sheridans Jewelers and are a nod to the parade’s past when silver coins were given to parade participants. Each of the five age divisions (Preschool and under, Kindergarten - Grade 2, Grade 3-5, Grade 5-8, Grade 9-12) will award a prize for scariest, cutest, most original, and “greenest” (best use of upcycled materials). There will also be prizes for best group costume and best family costume. The first 50 children to check in at registration for the parade will receive a musical instrument to play in the parade from Harrington Bros. Music. The costume contest’s panel of five judges consists of notable figures in or from the community who have contributed to the parade’s revival: Cortland Elks Lodge Exalted Ruler John Pinto, City of Cortland Ward 1 Alderwoman Julie Bird, Cortland Downtown Partnership Executive Director Adam Megivern, Cortland High School Link Crew students Caitlyn Ruggiero and another to be elected by the students.
