Procrastination - The Silent Killer Procrastination is the silent killer that sleeps of the opposite side of decision that keeps us from achieving our goals and living a life of fulfillment. Procrastination isnt a force outside ourselves that physically keeps us from achieve what we desire. Its something we create when we dont have a clear vision of the direction we want to take our lives. We have all experienced procrastination at some point in our lives whether it be from lack of self-esteem, lack of fulfillment in our lives, career, relationships and can also be created by FEAR of the unknown, failure, rejection, and success. To conquer procrastination we must first get to the roots of the cause by asking ourselves questions. Question are the keys to creating what our minds focus on from moment to moment. By asking yourself good quality questions your mind searches for and bring to your attention what it is your doing on a moment to moment basis that triggers us to procrastinate. Some good starting questions could be... *What is the root cause? *Why do I put these things off? *What triggers procrastination within me? By asking myself these questions I discovered that I did not have a clear outcome of what I wanted that was in line with my core values and beliefs so I had to go back any realign and recreate some of them to see what was really important in my life. If we want to take our lives in the direction that we want we are going to have to eliminate all the distractions that steer our focus away from where we want to go. Eliminating unproductive Internet usage, emails, junk television and video game playing are good starting places if you want to eliminate procrastination. However, the biggest negative we need to permanently eliminate is the negativity of those people in our lives who are also afraid to take action. Bird of a feather flock together! For many of us these negative people are our relatives and close friends who mean well but just dont understand what it is your going through emotional to give any REAL advice on how we should be operating. We must eliminate all negative influences if we are to avoid procrastination and make our lives to order. I have taken the habit of asking myself a series of questions for steering my mental focus and I share them with you in hopes that you too can conquer the procrastination enemy: 1) How can I improve myself so that I become a better person? 2) How can I get along better with my friends, family and customers? 3) What will I miss out on if I dont take action towards my goal? Remember also to create penalties for yourself if you find yourself held back by procrastination. I composed this post to share with you my point of view on procrastinating in my own life and Im no expert but my goal is to share with you what procrastination looks like to me and how I deal with it on a daily basis.
