Product Review: Veggie Twister When Im not helping Julie and team out at New Life Nutrition or studying for my dietetics degree, Ill usually be at my other job which is working at General Traders Harbour Town here on the Gold Coast. We sell heaps of really cool kitchen gadgets and one of those is called the Veggie Twister. You can use it to turn pretty much any long vegetable (carrots, zucchini, cucumber, sweet potato and so on) into either spaghetti or spiral shapes which you can then use to make a salad or, not surprisingly, use as a substitute for pasta. Tonight I thought Id do a of road test of it by creating: Spaghetti bolognese with orange and green pasta. Please excuse the pun ;) haha.....not really! Firstly just peel your carrots and wash the zucchini. You next need to chop the vegetables into 5cm lengths so that they can fit into the cutter of the twister you want to use (I used spaghetti). Its best to use wider veggies as youll get a longer spaghetti that way. Its really easy and pretty quick to do. In about 5-6 minutes I had done 2 carrots and 2 zucchini. If you have any kids to pitch in, I find that it helps to get them excited about tucking into the orange and green pasta once its ready (and saves you the elbow grease!). In fact its so easy to cook that kids can do this too! Once you have spiralled your veggies, just add carrot first to a sautee pan on medium heat (use a tablespoon of vegetable oil) and cook for around 3-4 minutes until just tender. While this is cooking, reheat your sauce (I had leftover bolognese from a shepherds pie I cooked on the weekend), and then add zucchini. Stir to combine zucchini and carrot and then add heated sauce and mix through. Serve and sprinkle on some parmesan and fresh herbs. Thats dinner done in about 15 minutes and packed full of veggies (nearly 3 serves per person). So. . . . . the verdict; how does it taste? Actually really good. Not mushy or watery (as can happen when processing or grating). Really light and refreshing and you dont feel at all heavy afterwards. Id really recommend you give veggie pasta a try! The pictures pretty much tell the story :) YUMMO! -Brett, DietitianToBe
