Prof. Neto once said... In one of his visits to SA (Durban, 2009) Prof. Neto, the director of the Brazilian Football Coaching Academy, we were having a chat over a cup of coffee and I remember him saying, “every time I conduct coaching courses in other countries I make the participants aware that I can only give knowledge that is relevant to the way we play football in Brazil. We can just hope that a thing or two may be useful to their football too. I cannot come to South Africa and tell you how to play your football. No, that could be very disrespectful. As a responsible football educator I know that it’s not possible because I don’t know your players, their background, their feelings about the game, language and so on. Any instructor or technician who come from outside the country must accept and respect those characteristics which make South Africa and other countries as well, different and in many ways unique. I won’t hesitate to say that those football teachers who come from other countries and say to you ‘I am going to teach you how to play the best football’ are completely dishonest. Their interest is not in your football” Please take note, it could open your eyes.
