Professor Farmer has urged me to post about our loss of our Jersey cow - I wrote how I felt the day it happened on my own wall but for those of you who are friends of the farm - This is how I will remember the Minnie Moo. Most milk cows never live to see twelve especially one with three teats, blindness, and a crooked mouth. But Minnie was different in every way. She trained many of us to hand milk always sweet and patient with all the fumbling and beginning milkers. If you really irritated her- a step into the milk bucket and you learned dont pull! Gently squeeze. We trusted her with interns, curious first time milkers, farm sitters, and young nephews. The people who are afraid of cows loved this special old girl. She taught us being blind is merely a challenge not the end of existence. She gave beautiful sweet calves and the best creamy moo milk ever! Once again these mother animals give their all so their young can survive. Minnie lived beyond her time and will live on in time as my first in love with a cow. Thank you Moo for making me laugh- teaching ME to slow down and have patience myself( she was never a fast milker ) Im glad you got to eat your favorite treats right up to the end and even as a part of my heart is broken off and you have taken it with you I will remember all those lessons and try every day to use them in my own life. Eat with relish, love all the little baby animals, be gentle when Im scared, kiss with a big sloppy kiss just because you are able! And never ever forget- all the girls in the barn should be treated like ladies. I will miss you - you goofy cow thank you for teaching me Grace, patience, and that a simple life is a good life.
