Professor Khalid Iqbal Corner - a legendary landscape painter (I shall share his photographs and some of his paintings as a tribute to him) Khalid Iqbal - a legendary landscape painter died in Lahore on 19th June, 2014 just four days before his birthday. He was born on 23rd June 1929 at Simla. He was an artist who did not like to say much about himself or his work. I used to see him on his old Suzuki motorcycle with canvases and painting stuff very early in the morning passing nearby Kotha Pind near Faisal Town almost daily for years. I knew he was rushing to catch the same light and shade of visual reality of Lahores outer urban and rural fringes which he left a day earlier. Many of my friends from NCA like Ghulam Mustafa have been his students through whom I had a number of opportunities to meet him and to listen to him about art of painting in real light and shade. He is considered as the father of landscape painting and the initiator of modern realism in the sub-continent. He is no more with us but his work shall keep him alive.
