Project X, described in the article I will link to here, has some aspects which are interesting from the P2P perspective. First, there is the idea of software development. The article makes clear that the creators of Project X see their work in a for profit context. They expect their idea to generate revenue, and they believe the software they develop will itself generate revenue although their idea is essentially an altruistic and public-service type of project: If Project X develops software that helps news organizations retain important context while reporting whats new, the biggest beneficiaries may turn out to be purveyors and consumers of local journalism. ... Assuming retention rates dont increase dramatically in community journalism, a software platform that resembles building out a wiki as much as publishing a WordPress entry might improve the product over time by helping to rebuild institutional knowledge. The article describes the goal of attracting readers who respond positively to the availability of news content which is not merely reporting on the facts of current events but utilizes a sort of professional methodology of explaining the relevance of the information and how it adds to the development of ongoing social, economic, and historical processes and developments. So, of course I brought up the tech aspect because that is what is common to much of this groups skill-set and perspective on things. But you can see obviously that there are a lot of ideas and questions related to the generation of truth and the collaborative development of narrative making. How is the relationship between the press and the public described? How are different forums seen by those participating in them? Which is more important to generating narratives, news sites (which often allow for user blogs, such as Huffington Post) and their staff or the general public and various interest groups (such as activist groups which themselves generate narratives and attempt to influence the publics understanding of events)? etc. theatlantic/politics/archive/2014/02/how-will-ezra-kleins-project-x-add-context-to-news/283568/
