Property Taxes were increased effective April 1, 2013 and as a result of the Minister of Local Government requested that we reactivate the Parish Review Committees to deal with all applications for Special Discretionary Relief, particularly for our seniors, pensioners, and persons with fixed incomes who are experiencing hardship. So far (as at August 2013), we have received a total of Two Hundred and Eighty Six (286) applications for relief. Unfortunately, One Hundred and Eighty Nine (189) of them were considered incomplete. Let me therefore use this opportunity to remind individuals to make sure the following is properly filled out on the form: 1. Valuation number of property 2. Tax payable 3. Age of applicant We have been able to contact approximately 80% - One Hundred and Forty Eight (148) - of these applicants to request the required information and documents. Ninety Seven (97) applications were received which met the requirements. We have completed investigations for forty one (41) and twenty (20) applications have been placed before the committees for its consideration. A total of four (4) persons have been granted relief.
