Prophets Must be Infallible: According to Islamic theory - TopicsExpress

Prophets Must be Infallible: According to Islamic theory prophets have been sent to lead and direct mankind. Undoubtedly, if the leader is tainted by wrongdoing and evil, he wont be able to direct people to chastity and purity. Therefore, prophets must be free from wrongdoing and mistakes, so that people may confidently follow them to prosperity. In other words, if someone urges people to be truthful and trustworthy but himself is a liar or at times lapses into dishonesty and treachery, his words will never deeply sway people. Similarly, if divine prophets had not been free from error and mistakes, and people had anticipated that they would make mistakes in carrying out their mission, they would never have wholeheartedly believed his words. Consequently, a complete compliance would not have occurred and their objectives would not have been achieved. Indeed, God wont choose anyone who is not free from idolatry and wrongdoing to deliver His message. Rather, He would pick those who are free from any impurity whatsoever and would maintain this infallibility in the future to assume this lofty position. But it irony that some Muslim scholars says hat the Prophet of God (saw) is infallible only in proclaiming the Quran. Apart from that he is like other human beings, he errs (i.e. makes mistakes) and does right. They derive proofs of his (saw) mistakes at different occasions by traditions which are reported in many traditional books. If that is the case, what is the proof and evidence in the claim to adhere to the Book of God and the Sunnah of His Prophet as long as this Sunnah is, the some scholars view, not infallible and there is a possibility of error in it ? Onthis basis, then clinging to the Book of God and the Sunnah, according to the belief of some Muslim scholars, does not guarantee one from not being led astray especially as we know that the whole Quran is explained and made clear by the Prophetic Sunnah. What is then their proof that the commentary and explanations are not contrary to the Book of Allah, the Most Exalted ? The result is that some followers of these scholars believe that the Prophet of Allah (saw) certainly opposed the Quran in many rulings according to the demands of the occasion.
