Pros of Dubbing (Purely my reasons... I am not Pro dubbing to make money.... Its not my area to buy rights n Dub in Kannada... so its NOT my business interest at all) I support it for the following reasons - a. Abiding by the Law. We cant dictate business policies. its free market, and we definitely need to abide by that. b. Audience get access to the information n content in Kannada. c. People who can write and speak good Kannada will get jobs. d. Stars n Producers who were dependent on Remake productions will be forced to Produce Original content. e. When stars sign up for Original content films, the budgets available for such original films increases and hence the Quality of Production improves. When a star makes an original film, he/she is encouraging the stories of the land, and bcoz of their popularity, it reaches out to a lot more people. Films need to have a strong LOCAL IDENTITY. f. Audience will reject the Dubbed content which is of lower quality, they will anyday prefer good quality content in Original language. This will keep away unnecessary content from getting dubbed... no one will dub B-Grade films when there is no money in it. And do we really look for an understandable language when (or if) we watch a B-grade film :-P g. The new exposure to all the good content from around the world will educate the audience and open up their perspectives, this helps in making movies/produce television content which can be more mature and contemporary... on par with the world. AND bcoz the audience is now exposed to all sorts of content, they will embrace new narratives, thought provoking cinema made in Kannada. h. Instead of making an effort to learn a new language to understand the content, the audience will just imbibe the content in their own language. sub consciously they are developing strongly in their own language... A strong vertical development rather than a thin horizontal knowhow. In other words, for ones own growth and the the growth of the region, its better to know one language perfectly than knowing a bit of umpteen languages. i. Constantly listening to GOOD CONTENT in ones own language increases the personal bonding towards the language... this leads to development within the individual.. he/she starts thinking in that language and that eventually helps in innovations in the same language. J. Business men will move out and find a foot hold in the Dubbing arena. This will create space for the genuine filmmakers/film producers to get back n make the films they believe in. And AUDIENCE dig for such films. Right now, the industry needs to desperately get the Business man out and get the Producers back. K. True Artists will survive and find more recognition. Might be a lil difficult in the beginning but very soon they will be more in demand than the popular ones. L. Industry economics will become CONTENT driven.. this opens up equal opportunity scenario for talents in all departments. People with substance will get the opportunities. M. Number of films made will be reduced, but the number of days taken to make a film will increase. Bcoz every production is now attempting to compete with other films, they will have to spend more time n resource in making one film.. FEWER FILMS but of BIG BUDGETS is the need of the hour for KFI. The workers will not be affected bcoz instead of working for 100 days on three films, they will now be working for one film... but they will be working for 100 days! so their daily wages is NOT AFFECTED. N. Old School thoughts will filter out, making way to the new. O. Audience will get an Over dose of JUNK bcoz of Dubbing and hence they will end up VALUING original content a lot more than they are doing now. They will embrace it and protect it. P. There are many talented minds in towns and villages, they need an exposure to new content. This will motivate them to come out n do something with their talents. I feel, currently they are restricted... people who are in Cities n big towns know what to do.. but not these people. Q. If my child is learning English in school (very Important in the world today) then the next best tool to catch up with the Local language is to hear it as often as he/she can. They wont sit and listen to Kuvempus Audio books ... not at the age of 6 to 10. They need the content they are interested in to be in Kannada... that is how u get them to hear more of Kannada. These are a few points why I feel Dubbing is a Need. Yes I might be the first one to be rendered jobless... but for the greater good.. Id rather find another way to Live my life than Killing the reach of a language.
