Protesting Alderman 1% Cappleman yesterday as he launched his re-election bid. Uptowns 46th Ward has a long tradition of social justice activism -- from helping Appalachian fight black-lung disease, to providing mental health care to housing for the poor -- which Cappleman has tried to bury. From opposing toy Christmas toy drives for homeless families, giving multi-million dollar tax subsidies to upscale housing developments, to destroying more SRO housing in his ward than the rest of the city combined, Cappleman has declared war on the wards low and medium income population. During our protest, a drunken Cappleman supporter (9th photo here) did his best to harass and start fisticuffs with protesters, but fortunately no one took the bait. He kept on badgering people by asking where we lived (most of us protesters live in the ward). More than a bit creepy to have a 6 4 belligerent, intoxicated guy demanding your residential address. A question back at our friend -- how many drinks had you imbibed in by the time of our early afternoon protest?
