[Proud to be Indigenous] Last Sat morning before the Mata road running, many Taokas women were dancing in front of the lake they were about to worship to the ancestors. What the women put on were some clothes which seemed to be indigenous, but not exactly for anyone who had some basic knowledge of Taiwanese indigenous costumes. I heard one man criticise, This is hilarious, they have no traditional costumes, they wear something look like indigenous but its not. This is so funny. I told him, Traditional is a present continuous tense. Nobody wears as exactly the same as what their ancestors wore centuries ago. These Taokas people used to reject their true identity as indigenous people due to discrimination from the society, just like many others. But now they are brave to put on something indigenous-inspired to claim that, Yes, Im proud to be indigenous! I think this has been a big step for the people. So I choose to give them a big applause instead of criticism.
