Proverbs 3:1-2 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart - TopicsExpress

Proverbs 3:1-2 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee. Laws in these United States vary from place to place. Did you know... ...theres a prohibition against buying bologna on Sundays in Tennessee? ...the cooking of sauerkraut or cabbage outdoors is prohibited in West Virginia? ...North Carolina forbids the racing of rabbits down city streets? ...Kentucky law requires residents to bathe at least once a year? The curious mind may wonder what transpired to trigger these legislative marvels. As humans, its in our nature to question the wisdom and fairness of rules, as well as the motives behind them. and most folks dont mind complying with rules as long as they believe its in their best interest to do so. But then again, if we find a loophole, a shortcut or if we have some sort of objection to a rule or law, were apt to bend the rules to suit ourselves. King Solomon, the man to whom most of the Proverbs are attributed, had a God-taught wisdom. He understood human nature, and mans inclination to be resentful of legalities. In our verses here, we see Solomon suggesting that his rules for life arent meant to restrict a personality, to ruin a party or to deprive someone from enjoying life. Solomon says that, rather than taking away, Godly standards will add to a persons well being. Father knows best, is a cliché, but an absolutely true one if were referring to Father God. In the same way that order, cleanliness and respect are beneficial to a home, or safety procedures are beneficial in a workplace, Godly behavior is beneficial in the world in which we live. The Apostle John wrote, For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous (burdensome.) Thats what its all about, right? Love? God knew that none of us were capable of living up to His standards, and He loved us so much that He sent His son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for our sin. If we accept the price that was paid on our behalf, were free to live according to a new commandment. Theres nothing prohibitive about it either. No sir, its not one of those thou shalt nots. Jesus said, A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. Love God by loving one another. To Him, you are worth the price He paid. Surely Hes worth the best you can give Him. Youll love the results.
