Proverbs 6:16-19 “There are six things the Lord hates, seven - TopicsExpress

Proverbs 6:16-19 “There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community”. We are continuing our journey through the seven things God finds detestable. We are on item # seven; “a false witness who pours out lies”. A person who knowingly spreads rumors about others is a person who has nothing but bad intentions in their heart. These people are cancerous for a relationship, business, or community. This is why Proverbs 16:28 says “A dishonest man spreads strife, and a whisperer separates close friends”. This behavior will destroy from the inside; often without the victim even knowing there is a problem. This underhanded sin is something which is absolutely detestable to God. Our current internet age has magnified the effect of this behavior 10 fold. With a simple stroke of the keyboard someone can spread lies about another person to hundreds of people simultaneously. Others can continue sharing these lies to hundreds more. In a matter of hours, lies can be spread to thousands of people all over the world. This is scary stuff. We must understand that God will not take this lightly. Proverbs 19:5 says “A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will not go free”. SELF EXAMINATION TIME: So, what is our responsibility in this verse? What should our take home point be? First…share and speak responsibly. A good rule of thumb for speaking and sharing is to ask; who will this benefit, and who will this hurt? If it will not benefit anyone…or if it will hurt someone; we should keep it to ourselves. Second…We should live in a way that if someone spreads lies about us, the majority will know it is so out of character that it cannot be true. As 1 Peter 3:16 says “keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander”. We should live our life plugged into Gods Spirit. Have a Blessed Day Everyone!!!! In Christ, Master Tom
