Provide pathway to resident, ASI told By Express News Service - MADURAI 23rd July 2013 09:26 AM The Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) has directed the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Revenue Department in Pudukottai district to open a fenced pathway to provide access to a septuagenarian resident to enter and exit his house. In his petition, Suyamburaj (70) of Malayadipatti in Kulathu Taluk in Pudukottai submitted that a 600-year-old Lord Perumal Temple in his village was declared as an ancient monument and brought under the ASI’s control. The petitioner owned a house which was constructed on a 0.75 acre land more than 60 years ago. In December last year, the ASI had erected a barbed fence around the temple, including his house. The authorities refused to remove the fence despite representations as a result of which he was unable to enter his home. Hence he approached the court.
