Pruitt looking into legal action after waiver denial Attorney General Scott Pruitt said Friday his office is considering pursuing action against the U.S. Department of Education after denying Oklahoma’s No Child Left Behind Flexibility waiver this school year. Pruitt said the federal government exceeded its authority under the law. He said he supports higher academic standards but called the actions by the USDE “wholly inappropriate and unlawful.” “President Obama’s Education Secretary did what so many other federal agencies are doing under the leadership of this President -- disregard the law and make it up as they go along. The law does not allow the secretary to condition Oklahoma’s waiver from No Child Left Behind on yielding the state’s right to define and establish standards,” Pruitt said in a written statement Friday. “It would appear in this case the Obama administration has exceeded its authority under the law and my office will continue our examination of the best manner in which the state will respond.” For the full report, go to ecapitol.net
