Ps 89:9-13 9 You rule over the surging sea; when its waves mount up, you still them. 10 You crushed Rahab like one of the slain; with your strong arm you scattered your enemies. 11 The heavens are yours, and yours also the earth; you founded the world and all that is in it. 12 You created the north and the south; Tabor and Hermon sing for joy at your name. 13 Your arm is endued with power; your hand is strong, your right hand exalted. If you really want to get your mind boggled and your head hurting, try to reason your way to an understanding of God and his actions. This is because we try to make God fit our minds, our thinking and our logic. But God is not bound by these or by us. Paul said the wise things of God seem as foolishness to man and the wisdom of man is foolishness to God. A part of this is because we do not see the big picture as God sees it. We are so limited by time and space that we cannot fathom how things happening today can affect our “sons and daughters” a hundred or thousand years from now. What we can understand is that God loves us and wants only what is best for us in every situation. When we give our lives to him, he wants to get us ready to live with him in eternity. We often do not understand how things we face are doing this because we often never look at them from this perspective. Also, the things that happen to us may be because God is using us to help someone else in their trials but we must be ready and in the right place to do so. I often think of Moses and the years he must have spent in depression as he thought of what might have been had he stayed in Egypt instead of trying to help his Hebrew family. Maybe if he had waited another year before he tried to deliver them it would have worked. Now he has gone from the palace of Pharaoh to the rough hills and harsh outdoors and instead of leading the armies of Egypt, he is leading a bunch of sheep. But in all of this (unknown to him) God was getting him ready to become one of the greatest men ever to live. Where is God leading you and me? Why are things happening as they are? We may never know the answers to these and other questions but we can be ready to serve him and trust that he knows what is best and will take care of us.
