Psalm 109:1-5 NKJV Do not keep silent, O God of my praise! For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful Have opened against me; They have spoken against me with a lying tongue. They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, And fought against me without a cause. In return for my love they are my accusers, But I give myself to prayer. Thus they have rewarded me evil for good, And hatred for my love. This Psalm is a plea for judgment on false accusers. The psalmist David declares his innocence. But one thing that I love in verse 4 that he says; In return for my love they are my accusers, *But I give myself to prayer.* We can jump back a little to, Psalm 35:12-14 NKJV They reward me evil for good, To the sorrow of my soul. But as for me, when they were sick, My clothing was sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting; And my prayer would return to my own heart. I paced about as though he were my friend or brother; I bowed down heavily, as one who mourns for his mother. I dont know about you but its a perfect example of Matthew 5:44 NKJV But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 1 Thessalonians 5:15 nkjv See that no one renders evil for evil to anyone, but always pursue what is good both for yourselves and for all. 1 Peter 3:8-9 NKJV Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, ***knowing that you were called to this,**** that you may inherit a blessing. More verses to look at (1 Peter 3:8-17; Romans 12:9-21) Its hard to do. It really is. But if this makes it easier. Lets take a look at Ecclesiastes 7:21-22 NKJV Also do not take to heart everything people say, Lest you hear your servant cursing you. For many times, also, your own heart has known That even you have cursed others. This is hard, and certainly cant be done alone. Thats why Philippians 4:13 says I can do ALL things THROUGH Christ who GIVES ME STRENGTH. First thing you do? Psalm 121:1-2 NKJV I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help?
