Psalm 121 Day 1 Contrary to popular lay-interpretation, verse 1 - TopicsExpress

Psalm 121 Day 1 Contrary to popular lay-interpretation, verse 1 is not a declaration of hope, but rather, it is a cry of despair. The Psalmist is not looking to the hills for help in facing the problems of life. The Psalmist is telling us that danger is lurking in the hills above and that danger is waiting for an opportunity to pounce upon the weary traveler. The Psalmist knew that his help would not come from the hills. In the day this was written, the hills were used for flanking your enemy in battle, a place where thieves would hide out and places of idolatry and false religion. This writer knows that he will not find help in the hills! None of the idols can offer the help he needs. He can’t trust the enemy or thieves. When trouble comes, and it will, where can the Believer turn for help? The Psalmist answers his own question by reminding us that the Lord, and the Lord alone, is our help!
