Psalm 25:5 Hitting The Curve In baseball, the curve ball is a pitch of deception. It looks like one pitch, but it crosses the plate as something else entirely. The key to the pitch is the topspin on the ball when it is thrown, which causes the ball to drop. The object of the curve ball is for it to break downward below the swing of the bat. Because of its deception, a great curve ball will result in a lot missed swings. A couple of Hall of Fame pitchers, Sandy Koufax and Nola Ryan, had blazing fastballs. But they complemented their fastballs with great, deceptive curve balls. The deceptiveness of the curve ball can make the best hitters look foolish. They see the pitch coming and their eyes relay the information to their brain. The brain then sends the information to the rest of the body, causing the muscles of the body to react and swing at the pitch. However, after the batter has swung at the pitch, he realizes only too late that he was deceived. It was not the pitch he thought. It dropped just below his bat as he swung. It was a curve ball. So many times we think we know what life is throwing at us. We believe we are ready. However it is only too late when we realize we were wrong. We only thought we knew what was coming. We swung at the lie that life wanted us to believe. We were deceived. So how do we hit the curve balls that life throws us? Well, we use the same philosophy that the hitter should use. We wait. The best hitters know that the best way to hit a curve ball is to keep your hands back and wait. In Psalm 25:5, the writer did not want deception but he wanted to be led in the truth of God. In order to find that truth, he was willing to wait all day if necessary for he knew that God was his salvation. Life will throw us curve balls. We will be deceived. But we can see threw the deception by waiting on God. He will give us truth. He will help us hit the curve balls that life throws at us.
