Psalm 27:14 “Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” We are as Jordan calls it “Hotel Patients”. Claire is not receiving any major chemo or methods of intervention, we are just waiting for a nadir and recovery. Her counts have dipped slightly from yesterday, Jordan and I believe we are on the way down to the bottom. We pray the Lord brings her to the bottom quickly and out just as fast providing us a discharge home. Daily Claire still receives an growth cell stimulating (GCSF) shot and two doses of Lestaurtinib. She is otherwise free, unhooked, and able to roam about Duke Hospital. Tonight during the first hours of her sleep she did receive a dose of IVIG to help boost her immune system. Overall Claire is doing great. She bounced back from the bad side effects and looks wonderful. Monday and Tuesday night she did not go to sleep until 11:30 pm, yes pm. Her energy level has been high, and she brings much playfulness and joy to 5100. Today she has been a bit more tired, probably due to falling counts and extremely late bedtimes. However, she went to bed at a decent hour tonight, and we are hopeful that will revive her. Claire’s taste buds are already experiencing the affects of chemo. She has sampled various foods and has become discouraged at nothing tasting “right”. Therefore, she is now very hesitant and reluctant to try new things and unable to find a food that she likes enough to consume in large quantities. Her weight is already dropping, quicker than I’d like. She has a metabolism like her daddy which she will appreciate later in life . I am thankful she taking some formula, yogurt, chicken nuggets, or crackers in very limited portions. We have been in this position before and the Lord provided. I ask that you help us petition Him in providing yet again. May he restore Claire’s appetite and ability to enjoy the taste of some food enough to sustain her nourishment and weight. Luke 12:16-20 Jesus“told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’” I am reminded that even as we sit here at Duke comfortable and satisfied to wait until the end of this admission, we can not do the same with our life in Christ. Complacency is a trap of Satan used so that God will find you unprepared on the last day. Instead we must “… be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” 1 Cor 15:58 so that we do “not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” Gal 6:9. Contentment through worldly gratification can lead to apathy in laying up heavenly treasures due to finding false satisfaction in temporary ones. Do not let life become so comfortable you become a “hotel patient” and miss becoming a guest in the Father’s House
