Pseudotumor cerebri, such a clinical sounding name but once youve felt the pain firsthand It never again sounds the same A term thats used to rule out the rest A diagnosis of elimination A doctors term for we dont know whats wrong With a solution of here, have some medication Left confused, feeling alone and scared All while suffering with this hell And left with looks of disbelief From the ones you try to tell But you look fine! and It cant be THAT bad Well-meaning but clueless replies If only they could FEEL our pain Theyd have a different look in their eyes Theyd understand the incessant ringing The constant throbbing eyes and ears Maybe theyd be more sympathetic If it was THEM suffering this hell for years The days youre lucky to get out of bed Without asking God why me? Where the horrific pain in your head Is what decides what your day will be For most, relief means medications many From Lasix to Fentanyl patches Or a shunt in the brain or stuck in your spine While they think we just sit on our asses Its not an excuse, or just being lazy Its hell confined in our heads So next time you think of calling me crazy Why dont you do some research instead?
