Public Advisory as WPD Investigating Three Recent Attacks Worcester, MA (April 14, 2014) - The Worcester Police Department would like to make the community aware of three recent attacks that occurred this month involving assaults on unsuspecting and innocent people. Police have responded to these assaults in the 700 block of Main Street, the area of 87 Millbury Street and on Chatham near Main Street. All three recent incidents are similar to each other. Police have been told that the victims were walking alone when they were approached by a male whom they have never met. The male suspects, without provocation or warning, punch the victims in the face or head area with such force with the intent to inflict serious injury to the unsuspecting victim. Two of the three victims are 56-year-old males while the third victim is a 23-year-old male. The two 56-year-old victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The 23-year-old male was not seriously injured. Police believe that these actions by the suspects may be part of the so called knockout game. The knockout game has been gaining in popularity which refers to a blitz style attack on a random unsuspecting stranger with the goal of knocking the person out with a single punch. The police department would like to make citizens aware that these brazen attacks have occurred. Police urge citizens to use caution and be aware of your surroundings when walking alone or if approached by an unknown individual. At this time it is unknown if these assaults are conducted by the same suspect or carried out by different individuals. There have been no other reported assaults in the city this year that resemble these incidents. Investigators are working on these incidents and have limited suspect information at this time, if anyone has information about this incident they can send an anonymous text to 274637 TIPWPD + your message or send an anonymous web based message at worcesterma.gov/police. Calls can also be made to the Worcester Police Detective Bureau at (508) 799-8651.
