Public Invited to a Reception on January 12 for 2015-16 Art Program at Farmington Hills City Hall The public is invited to attend a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12 to view the new artwork on exhibit at Farmington Hills City Hall, located at 31555 W. Eleven Mile Road. Visitors are welcome to stroll through the building and meet many of the artists, while enjoying light refreshments. Mayor Barry Brickner will make a formal presentation at 7 p.m. This latest exhibit, the third phase in the City’s Public Art Program, features work from 32 talented artists from Farmington/Farmington Hills and surrounding communities. The artwork is on loan to the City for the next two years, through the generosity of the artists. Works feature a variety of media including clay, metal, fiber, paint, glass, and photography. Subjects range from the very contemporary to the traditional, with many stunning and thought-provoking pieces. Participants at the reception will have the opportunity to vote for the Public Choice Exhibit. The artist who receives the most votes at the end of the reception will be chosen to display additional works in the gallery space near the City Council Chambers in a special exhibit that will run from February through April. “We’re excited about this new component of the Public Art Program,” said Cultural Arts Supervisor Rachel Timlin. “During the next two-year phase of the program, we’ll offer additional opportunities for artists to display their work through small group and solo exhibits that will change every two to six months.” With support from a grant provided by the Farmington & Farmington Hills Foundation for Youth and Families, the Cultural Arts Division will also present a series of artist talks, free and open to the public, which will highlight various artists with works currently on display. Artists with works featured in the 2015-16 Public Art Program include Richard A. Adams, Pamela Alexander, Richard Button, Delphine Cislo, Thomas Dean, PJ Freer, Ani Garabedian, Michelle Graznak, Ted Hadfield, Eric Law, Anne Hiemstra, Lila Kadaj, Candace Law, Robert Levine, Anthony Macioce, Sue Majewski, Douglas Malone, Carl Mayer, Celeste McDermott, Kevin McIntosh, Don McKercher, Dave Messing, Marcyanna Parzych, James Patterson, Rosa Paulus, Barbara Rex Gage, Fran Seikaly, Rose Marie Starke, Kegham Taziam, Susan Warner, and April Wagner. The City Hall Public Art Program was initiated in 2010 to enhance the newly renovated Farmington Hills City Hall and to offer employees, residents, and visitors a chance to experience and enjoy a wide range of artistic offerings. The artwork creates a welcoming environment for the public and also gives local artists a chance to present their talent to the community. The 2015-2016 Public Art Program is made possible in part by a grant from the Farmington & Farmington Hills Foundation for Youth and Families, and with support from Artpack Services, Inc., of Farmington Hills.
