Public Meeting on Lavergne and Lawrence Sewer Project With the Chicago Department of Water Management, Im hosting a meeting Monday, Aug. 11, about a large sewer project on Lavergne from Lawrence south to the Kennedy Expressway. The meeting will be at 6:30 pm at the Copernicus Center Annex, 5216 W. Lawrence. The project is expected to start in the early fall. Crews will be tunneling under the expressway to connect to sewers to the south. Additionally, crews will need to close Lawrence in the eastbound direction so they can dig a shaft about 270 feet down to connect the sewer to a Deep Tunnel feeder tunnel. To dig the shaft, crews will use traditional digging equipment to go about 65 feet down. Once they hit bedrock, they will use controlled charges to dig the remaining 200 feet.
