Public School History is taught in absolutely the worst possible - TopicsExpress

Public School History is taught in absolutely the worst possible way. Like most things taught, History education is comprised of the Perceptual(What exactly happened) and the Conceptual(What we can learn from and compare it to). The Perceptual... Should be EASY. Those were human beings, We are human beings. The emotional, memorable, human DRAMA Is and should be powerful enough to bring you to tears when listening! The Story telling is and should be a form of Entertainment in this form of education! Instead, it is taught with a thick cliff notes like versions of textbooks that include everything with 0 emotional substance, to which you are required to note down and briefly memorize for a multiple choice test. And the Conceptual side isnt taught at all! The Conceptual side is the whole Real purpose to studying history! The Comparison to other ideas, and times, and philosophic lessons. Whats the point of knowing Roman history, or European history, or Asian history, or American history, etc, at all if there is absolutely nothing you cant take away from it! If it was just the story side then you could go and read fiction for the same result! History is the first Introduction to Philosophical, Political, and Economic ideas, and guided by the experience and emotion of the human beings that experienced it! And what is it boiled down to in public school? Oh, this happened, and this happened, and this happened, and write this down because this will be on the test. And that is ALL it is for PUBLIC school history students... an endless catalog of disconnected dates and names, passed down like scripture from the state textbook, seldom questioned and quickly forgotten. Sadly, Ben Stein from Ferris Buellers Day off is more truth than fiction. https://youtube/watch?v=uhiCFdWeQfA
