Public Service Announcement: Be Aware of Scam.....I received this message from a resident. I live in Portage with my parents and today we received a call from a man that left a message on our answering machine. He claimed his name was Officer Jason Miller and that he was with the IRS. My father called him back and the man was very hostile, telling my father that he didnt report his income properly on this taxes. Claiming that they were taking him to court, freezing his bank accounts, seizing his house and car if he did not pay a certain amount of money and that my dad was going to put in jail. This was the first my father was hearing of any of this. When my father asked why he has not received a letter in the mail regarding the matter, the man could not answer him. My father is 63 years old and my mother handles all the bills and papers. My father was pretty shaken by this and I have to admit that I was too. When I got my mother on the phone, he got very defensive and said that he could not talk to my mother. From that point on he starting rambling, telling us to not record him and that we were going to be in trouble for the rest of our lives and then hung up the phone immediately. The man was very threatening and sounded Arabian. It was very strange!! Not sure if this is happening to other residents. I just wanted you to be aware of this scam going around. When leaving the message on the answering machine he did not specify who he was wanting to talk with either. The number he left on our answering machine was 1-202-864-1221. I called the number and an unknown male subject with an Arabic accent answered claiming to be Officer Jason Lopez of the IRS. I advised him that I thought this was a scam and he hung up on me.
