Public Transportation Services Corporation(PTSC) Non-Represented EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Bulletin No: 005048-002 Job Title: COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR Specialty: Closing Date: 17-OCT-14 Salary Grade: H1D Salary Range: $37,523 - $46,883 - $56,264 External/Internal: EXTERNAL Other Info: This bulletin is posted to establish or add to a Qualified Candidate Pool(QCP) Basic Function Provides support to public relations activities, events, projects and/or programs to enhance the public’s awareness of Metro’s services and goodwill. Example Of Duties · Performs administrative assignments such as: processing and maintaining purchase requisitions; assisting in budget preparation; tracking department expenditures; ordering and keeping inventory of office supplies; developing and maintaining computerized and manual filing systems, records, and logs; and checking phone messages, screening and responding to telephone calls and visitors · Coordinates, manages and tracks all project expenditures related to outreach and mitigation · Develops statements of work, solicits bids, and opens Pos with local vendors · Serves as liaison with the media including making sure media receives Metro press releases, Board agenda packets, and other information · Works with project budget staff to ensure correct budget codes are used to satisfy funding partners and restrictions · Responds and transmits concerns voiced by local elected officials, community, and special interest groups to the department’s management · Assembles and distributes media clips to senior management and designated staff · Assembles, manages and documents all claims facilitated by Community Relations and maintains records of all complaints on major capital projects · Provides administrative support at press events or news conferences such as coordinating production and distribution of press kits and promotional materials and ensuring needed logistics are at hand; also provides support at community meetings or project milestone events · Conducts safety presentations and tours to local stakeholders, and participates in community events · Coordinates media projects for special events · Photographs media events for internal or promotional purposes · Cultivates and maintains effective working relationships with Spanish-speaking reporters, editors and producers in the print and electronic media on national, regional, and local levels · Collects and analyzes needed information for inclusion in final products · May be required to do print and electronic media interviews with Spanish speaking reporters · May be required to act as Spanish Translator at Board meetings · May be required to translate information materials into Spanish · Provides administrative support · Maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all of Metro’s safety rules, policies, and procedures · Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out Requirements For Employment · Associates degree - English, Journalism, Public Relations, or other related field · 1 year experience performing journalism, media relations, communications, marketing or community relations work · Ability to read, write, and translate in Spanish may be required depending on the assignment · Valid California Class C drivers license · Experience as outlined above may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis Knowledge: · Theories, principles, and practices of public information and print and media communications · Laws, rules, and regulations governing the disclosure of information by a public agency · Microsoft Office and internet/intranet technology Abilities: · Perform media relations work · Perform Community Relations work · Gather, assess, and summarize information for public distribution · Prepare comprehensive reports, correspondence, press releases, information and promotion packages, and articles · Communicate effectively orally and in writing · Represent Metro before the public · Analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions · Exercise judgment and creativity in making decisions · Think and act independently · Compile and analyze complex data · Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures · Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives · Read, write, speak, and understand English Selection Procedure Applicants who best meet job-related qualifications will be invited to participate in the examination process that may consist of any combination of written, performance, or oral appraisal to further evaluate job-related experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. A separate vision plan is included in each medical plan. Group Life Insurance - PTSC pays for an amount equal to your annual salary, rounded up to the nearest $1,000. Minimum amount of life insurance is $30,000. Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance - PTSC provides $50,000 coverage for each employee. Additional voluntary coverage in amounts up to $500,000 is available at favorable premium rates. Long-Term Disability Insurance - 100% employer paid. Provides employees with a minimum income of 60% of earnings after six months of disability. Buy up or buy down options available. Holidays - 10 days a year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day After Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Time off with Pay (TOWP) - Compensates employees who are on approved absence from work for reasons such as illness, injury, medical and dental appointments, personal business, vacation, or observance of (a) religious holiday. Years of Service Annual Accrual Hire date - 5 years 20 days Beginning of 6th - 10th year 25 days Beginning of 11th - 15th year 30 days Beginning of 16th + years 35 days Pension Plan - PTSC retirement plan is the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Vesting is five (5) years. Minimum retirement age is 50, based on the 2% at 60 formula.
