Public Works & Infrastructure was mandated by the Free State - TopicsExpress

Public Works & Infrastructure was mandated by the Free State Cabinet to demolish and rebuild 22 old two-roomed houses at Ficksburg Carledon Park. In order to demonstrates its capability and authoritative status in the build environment, the department is using its own artisans from the Thabo Mofutsanyana and Motheo regions. Four units have already been demolished (8 homes) and the families temporarily accommodated in temporary structures. The new houses are 62 square meters with verandas. 4 of the houses are already 95% complete with an additional 4 due for completion by end of January. 34 unskilled community members are employed and up-skilled, through the EPWP initiative. This will go a long way in embedding a culture of quality basic housing and structurally breaking down the adversities of the apartheid regime. Together with EXCO, MEC Mashinini is pulling all stops to ensure the houses are completed and handed back to the families as soon as possible. Free State Works because of Public Works!
