Public transport, a collective, or a private taxi will take you to the town of Yungay, which is a couple of hours from Huaraz. From this drop-off point, expect the challenging trek to Lake 69 to take a good 3 hours, especially at an altitude of 4,400 metres. The scenery is breath taking and worth the icy cold conditions. Expect to pass vistas of aquamarine lakes, waterfalls, and numerous snow-covered peaks of the Cordilleras Blancas. The lake itself is supposed to be a glorious pool of unimaginable turquoise water.
