Shumba Youth - Vocalist/MC/DJ. Our music is inspired by music of the african diaspora i.e. reggae, dancehall, jungle, dub, dubstep and hip hop. Artists in our own rights, we came together initially to put on events as we realised that in our local area of Oxford there was not much opportunity for local acts to be put on, we then began Positive Vibes events in 2011. A year later, we were given the opportunity to start taking bookings together in London and over the UK, and from there we went forward! With the help of Daddy Nature who invited us to guest on DejaVuFM in London and later gave us a string of bookings with Rompas Reggae Shack. From there we went on to perform alongside the likes of Julian Marley, Channel One, Gappy Ranks, Marvellous Cain, Dub Pistols and High Contrast. Eventually, we were able to play in Europe, in Poland, Ibiza, Italy & Germany respectively. Now after a few accomplishments we have a lot more faith in ourselves and have chosen to do this crowd funding campaign to produce and release a single and begin building our brand. So for this we need your support. All of what we have achieved so far has been completely independent, and we have done it largely off our own backs. Not discrediting some of the great help and support we have had along the way! Over a three year build up we have had many ups and downs. Now moving from recording digitally based sounds, to playing with the idea of live instruments, to give our music the best quality sound. Now after a long period of trying different things, we have started using bands to play live! We have been approached by labels and have had good feedback from the music industry, such as Darcus Beese of Island Records. But we are INDEPENDENT MUSICIANS, we want to do it with you guys as the label. For our new project we are going to work with a producer from Germany, who we worked with for our last EP. We want to create and direct the music all ourselves and with your support we can spread great music without the influence of a record label out for money. What We Need & What You Get This is our first crowd funding project and will help us create our first single which we plan to lead onto an EP/Album. We are opting to work with a studio that we have a very good relationship with, we did a lot of our debut EP work there. Those sounds were recreations of instrumentals from various other producers, this single will be us and the producer working together to create something special, unique and original. We need to raise £2000 in 38 days, and these are things that we really need your support to make happen: *Studio time The project will start being recorded in a very nice high quality independent studio in Berlin, Germany. Here we will take some time to gather inspiration and ideas to create something truly amazing. From this artistic hub in Germany is where the track will receive a professional mastering to ensure the highest standard we can get. *Travel To get to this studio one of our members will travel from the UK and stay in Germany to write and record this project. *Instrumental/Musicians We need music we can voice. Some ideas are already there and now we want to create, record and arrange the actual instrumental for our new song. Wed like to involve sounds played live in the studio, so your support will help us to get musicians and production time. *Perk Costs We put time into the ideas and design for our perks, but we still need a little help. Even if we ask friends for special prices wed like to have a small budget for artistic designs. Most of the perks we can create and perform, but we also offer some physical perks. So apart from the music production costs we need funds to order T-shirts and other printed items. *Overall Progress If we reach our goal we will also get the resources we need to make more contacts and to promote our music more. If we surpass our goal, it will help us to gather ideas and record demos for our following EP/Album and we would consider a new music video!! Perks As you will see, we have put in time, thought and effort into offering you some really exciting perks. If we dont reach our entire goal, we pay the basic production costs first to make sure we can send the song. We hope to reach our goal, do the full project and make a big step forward but if it is not possible we still do our best to create and send all perks. The Impact We believe this will have a massive impact for us as the the start of a larger project and in its own right. Our debut EP, had some creative restrictions because we didnt have the means we needed to do what we would have liked to do with the project. Having said that we have still taken this sound all over the UK and are performing at One Love Festival this year, after recently performing at a festival in the renowned YAAM in Berlin for a massive 2 day event put on by ReggaeinBerlin. We have also had the great opportunity to collaborate with Barry Ashworth from the Dub Pistols and Marvelous Cain from Yardrock Label, for forthcoming releases. So we have made some really good contacts within the industry and they have listened to our debut EP and given the same feedback; ...very good, can we hear more!. So this is what we want to give them, with your help we can elevate to a higher standard and really put together something special. Then go about marketing and promoting it far and wide. Amongst these people waiting to hear more, are booking agents and promoters, who will be more likely to book us in the months to come, when we plan to launch our second EP/Album release which this campaign is the start of. It will also have a large impact on our relationship with you guys; who have taken the time to support. We get to give something directly back to you, and you get to see us take the next steps on our journey. We have received feedback and also have a strong belief we have something very unique and uplifting in what we bring, and hope it will inspire people in a positive way. Risks & Challenges The Risks dum dum dum... There is a chance we may not hit our goal and raise the money we need to do the entire project. We are currently using flexible funding but we still have faith that you guys out there will support us. We hope to find music lovers who see the energy we put in and want to become a part of our family. If we dont hit our target it will be hard, but we still do as much as possible. Since we got great feedback on our last EP we are sure we can achieve the funds to pay the basic costs for the music production including the travel costs at least. Then we can send most of the perks, only ordering T-shirts and other physical items could be difficult. We do our best to send all perks, but the closer we get to our goal the more we can increase the quality of our products and the more we can proceed. We have done the full research for everything and know what the costs are, so when we do hit our target you will have great quality products, designed by us as a gift to you in complete exclusiveness. For example, you will have a T-shirt at basic printing costs, before we market them as a clothing line! You will have it before anyone else.
