Protocol prior to filling tanks we look for two things. One being that the tank had a visual inspection done within the last year and the other a hydro test done within the last five years. If these tanks had been hydro’d, there would be a stamp on the top shoulder of the tank. These particular tanks had neither done since new in 1991 but the new diver purchased them anyway from another popular dive shop in the area without knowing what to look for. Folks when you are purchasing used tanks PLEASE be aware of what you are purchasing before you do it. Here are some import guidelines for you to follow: 1. Check to see that the manufacture date on the tank is newer than 1990. Prior to this date some tanks were made with a bad batch of metals and can explode. 2. Check to see that they have had at least the required by law Hyro testing every 5 years. If its due for one, make sure you tell the seller that you will have a hydro done before you buy it. You might even make that part of the deal. Have them pay for it before you buy. If one pays for it and it will not pass the hydro test, one might be out some money.
