Purim on Cazenove An artists’ portrait of the street - TopicsExpress

Purim on Cazenove An artists’ portrait of the street celebrations of Purim, a Jewish festival, on Cazenove Road in Hackney, through street photography and audio recordings. We wanted to explore the enjoyment of celebrating Purim as it has such a strong visible presence on the streets to local residents and communities. Loud music from mobile sound systems fills the air. Groups gather dancing around the musical buses and trailer processions, with children in fancy dress costumes. Artists Tanya Harris and Jessica Marlowe met at Clapton Library at a community meeting organised by Hackney Museum. Through conversations, they recognized common ground as local artists with a Jewish background who shared an enthusiastic interest in Cazenove Road’s Jewish community street celebrations. Nick Coates and Tanya Harris are local photographers and have been documenting Purim for several years.
