‘Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, - TopicsExpress

‘Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness’ (1 Tim 6:11) If we wish to ‘fight the good fight of the faith’, we need to live it in our hearts and prove it by our behaviour. Only then can we be called the true followers of Christ. When we celebrate the Eucharist, we are reminded of Jesus’ concern for the sinner, the leper, the blind and how he reached out to all of these through the miracles he performed. And we are exhorted to do the same. Just as our offerings of bread and wine are transformed on the alter at every mass, so also do our gifts of love become gifts of grace to the people around us. But we are truly touched be God’s power when we go to church? Today’s Gospel is about the rich man and Lazarus. The rich man enjoyed his God-given riches very selfishly instead of sharing his wealth. We seldom realize that all we possess comes from God and that he is pleased when we are generous, especially towards the needy. We should ‘not neglect to do good and to share what (we) have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.’ The first Christians, led by the Spirit, shared all their belongings with one another. We need to return to their standard of lived faith. FRUIT: Lord stir my heart today to listen to your voice and reach out in loving generosity to my brothers and sisters.
