Put in your voice to this: submissions close TODAY! https://getup.org.au/campaigns/climate-action-now/ambition-submission/aim-higher-on-climate Add your email address. The following body was submitted by Donnell Davis, (THANKS!) who has her own environmental business, see envirobusiness.org/public/, and serves as a good starting point for your own comments. Either cut-and-paste, fully, partially or make your own submission. Subject: Climate Change Authority Body: Dear Climate Change Authority, Please be confident that people in South East Queensland and across Australia care about climate change. We have a better understanding since the initiatives over the past decade have also included impact on ourselves, and that we are personally impacted by fires, droughts, floods, cyclones, as well as the ubiquitous slow -burn of climate that materializes in our health. Please also refer to the Australian Attitude survey on climate in your deliberations. I think we are only scratching the surface. Please be aware that we are concerned that climate change is not allowed in our vocabulary in Queensland Government and science (relating to climate) is being phased out in our schools. This concerns us because the next generation will not have the language or understanding that we need to multiply our opportunities for well-informed interventions into the future. It is embarrassing that Australia still causes more climate change through greenhouse gas generation (by elite companies) that is exacerbating the degradation our quality of life in cities but also in our food bowls. (Hence regional governance is just as important as city governance). Please penalize polluters as promised. Please change behaviour of inappropriate industries, so we can enjoy a low carbon future. Then we will be allowed to sit at the table with other countries (in ECOSOC/UN/CHOGM meetings) in a confident position to assist with the planets future. Australia is well represented in IPCC however; we are not converting that knowledge into action here at home. It is difficult to be an environmental business established in Australia but working overseas to make a difference, when our own country appears to be on the cusp of slipping backwards. Please exercise your fiduciary duty of care and make some sensible honourable decision about the future of this and future generations with bold action to win the war against climate change.
