*** Putneys Hidden Gem *** Putney Arts Theatre On the corner of Upper Richmond Road and Ravenna Road Putney Arts Theatre is a community theatre celebrating fifty years this year. Formed in 1964 out of the coming together of a couple of local community drama groups, they began life as Group 64. In 1968 they inhabited the old union church with the help of a Lottery and Arts Council Grant they gained the freehold in the late 1990s. In 1999 they joined with Putney Players to become Putney Theatre Company with Group 64 still continuing for the younger people. They offer a variety of work which can be bold, adventurous, challenging, classic, new and sometimes more than a little bit silly. Above all, the work always strives to be of the highest standard. Not many town centres can boast to have a theatre and Putney Arts theatre relies on its volunteers to keep running and its active members and visitors to keep supporting.
