Q&A The tragedy of Karbala has played a great role in reviving the Islamic Ummah and safeguarding the religion of Islam from distortions and corruption, how can we realistically implement the message of Ashura today with the same spirit and effects? In the Name of God: This can be done by holding gatherings of mourning (majalis). The speech given at majalis should hold advice and guidance to the people and convey the message of Imam Hussain (as)s revolution while also depicting the emotions of that tragic day. The various forms of expressing grief-such as crying and feeling sadness- should be encouraged. Any gatherings (majalis) or tents and caravans should keep in mind the significance of adhering to the obligations of Islamic Sharia such as prayer. Prayer is the pillar of religion; therefore the ceremonies of mourning for Imam Hussain (as) should be carried out in a way that does not conflict with the timing of prayer. If it so should happen that the camp was travelling on the way and the time of prayer came, then the camp should stop and pray congregational prayer. If such a spirit were achieved, then the principles that Imam Hussain (as) rebelled for will have thrived and will continue to do so in the future.
