Q&A with the CRFM: I am a farmers market newbie who has been inspired by your posts to make a trip up one of these Sundays. I have a few questions to get prepared if you have the time to answer: How much cash does one bring to a farmers market like this? I would hate to get there and be limited :-) with everything sounding so good! Are there places to sit and rest? Spots out of the sun? Bathrooms? How do you prepare to take your goodies home if they need refrigeration? Im about 1.5 hours away - is there a place to get ice? Would you recommend bringing a basket? Bags? a cart? Any suggestions are much appreciated! Jennifer A: Hi, Jennifer!Thank you for the GREAT QUESTIONS! 90% of transactions here will be cash and there is no ATM onsite or nearby. If you are a foodie, as we are, you will want to stash an extra $20 to buy a cup of great coffee and an amazing pastry, an icy lavender lemonade, and lunch from a food truck. Beyond that, you will find just about any locally-grown or made product you can imagine, and many are quite hard to find elsewhere. There are shady, grassy areas here to sit and relax, and portolets onsite. Lots of shoppers have small carts they use to collect goods as they shop to be brought back to bins and a cooler in their cars they either pack with ice at home, or pick up at a convenience store on the way. Now: as you follow your GPS, do not be concerned that it looks as if you are heading away from civilization. The market is located down a winding country road about 4 miles from the nearest highway. BUT, you will notice that nearly every other car is heading here, too. Its VERY well-attended... SO plan to arrive by 10:30-10:45 to get a parking space. This is a wonderful site at which to take photos, and all vendors are comfortable and familiar with being in front of the lens. One last thought: this is a GREAT place to purchase things to tuck away now for fabulous gifts later... a cashmere scarf, a bar of goats milk soap, a jar of honey, a screen-printed linen towel. Please stop by the Market Masters tent to say hello! We will be so pleased to meet you!
