Q)How do oysters make pearls? Q) How oysters turn a tiny bit of gunk into a lovely, valuable pearl. I Think: Pearls are virtually never formed from grains of sand. They form from parasitic organisms. The aragonite nacre that builds up around the parasite or parasites, as many oysters contain more than one pearl, is as a result of a cellular pearl sac which the pearl creates to encapsulate the parasite... Its an auto immune reaction. Does anyone know about that ??
