Q: There has been debate over the sense of entitlement motorists have over road usage as they pay road tax and COE (Certificate of Entitlement) while cyclists dont. A: This is a misconception, because the road tax can hardly pay for the road, what more maintenance of the road. Citing an example, the North-South Expressway built along CTE is costing 8 billion. This is the equivalent of 10 years of COE and road tax. If the COE & road tax is used to pay for this expansion, then who is paying for the remaining 3000km of roads? The general taxes that everyone paid towards to. Think further back, when roads were used by horse carriages, bicycles were already plying the roads before cars existed. IMHO, motorists who thinks that cyclists dont pay tax for road maintenance are seriously out of their mind and need to be re-educated. Because dont they know that a good portion of the road cyclists are also motorists who owns a car / motorvehicle? sheesh, those are what I would call brainless idiots.
