Q. What do you consider religious tolerance? A. In the Gospel of John 18:38 Pilate raised the most important question in life, What is truth? Pilate with disrespect for truth turned and walked away from the man who knew how to satisfy the spirit and intellect of this question...JESUS!!! There is so much bickering going on within Christianity about truth so I was impelled to take my search for truth to a higher realm. Talking about Christianity to other non Christians has taught me more tolerance, respect, and integrity about my own beliefs than talking with Like Christians. True friendship requires talking as well as listening to the other point of views. So as a religious studies scholar, it is at my best interest to analyze other religions from the insider as well as an outsider perspective in order to make a complete and impartial assessment of what is true or false concerning other religious beliefs. The law of non-contradiction will not allow me to assume that all religions are TRUE but this law does permit me to conclude that most religions have SOME smuggled truth.. It is of the unlearned Christian philosophy to hastily assert: Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism or any other religious belief is TOTALLY wrong about God and reality without attempting to understand WHY they believe the way they do. Religious tolerance means to put up with errors and at the same time we maintain our own worldview about God and reality. My task as a religious study scholar is to seek universal or absolute truth. It amazes me how I have affirmed more truth about Christianity by comparing Christianity to other world views. Christianity has given me a web (doctrine) in which I view the world but this web (doctrine) does not blind me from all other world views. It takes a special person to converse with an Atheist, maintain their Christian view of life, and not offend the Atheist... If you do not know what a person believes it is foolish to say they are wrong to believe what they believe!!! I have discovered the formula for converting non believers: 1) win their friendship 2) win their understanding 3) win them over to Christ.. To my colleague Dan Brent, would you agree that this is a fair assessment? #CritiqueMe
