Q. salaam aleikum Rabbi. Recently i posted regarding jewish women wearing burkha type clothe . I need to know what is said in torah regarding wearing burka. Sir, please give your opinion in this regard A. Wa aleikum salaam wa rahmatullah The Torah talks about being modest and mentions wearing a veil. In Rabbinic law it is required for a woman (and man) to not expose their body, elbows & upper arm, knees & upper legs or neck. A married woman must also cover her hair. The veil is voluntary. From a Jewish point of view, the Torah idea of modesty is not to draw attention to oneself, which includes tight, overly loose or flashy clothing. If by wearing burka one draws everyones attention, it would be doing the opposite of what it is supposed to do.
