Ossabaw Indigo: Past, Present and Future featured at Ossabaw Island Foundation Annual Meeting on January 8. Plus, Jane Fishman reflects on Sandy West’s 102nd Birthday. What: The Ossabaw Island Foundation’s Annual Meeting and a celebration of the 102nd birthday of Eleanor “Sandy” West, a former owner and current resident of Ossabaw Island. (Sandy West will not attend the meeting.) Program highlights: Keynote: Ossabaw Indigo: Past, Present and Future. Its history on the island, its impact on the culture of coastal Georgia, and the revival of contemporary uses for this historic plant. Presenters: Dr. Paul Pressly, historian with Ossabaw Island Education Alliance, and Donna Hardy, indigo expert with Sea Island Indigo of Charleston, South Carolina. Remarks on Sandy West, by her friend Jane Fishman, author of The Woman Who Saved An Island. (Sandy’s 102nd birthday is January 17.) Followed by birthday singing and cake.
