QOTD: Well done is better than well said. -Benjamin Franklin In 1988 Nike launched the Just Do It campaign in an effort to convey a free-wheeling, devil-may-care attitude regarding both life and fitness. The idea was simple: people think and talk about things for far too long until they eventually talk themselves out of it, instead, dont think just do it. Years later, and the slogan is still going strong. You can see it on t-shirts, pants, shorts, hats, leggings, water bottles, and billboards just about anywhere. I absolutely love that! I dont know why we need so many reminders to get and stay motivated, but for some reason we do. Nowadays people crave for words of inspiration almost as much as they yearn for affirmation. We have become a people of apathy, I believe, because we are too comfortable. Life is practically automated now, and with everything coming to us so easily, people forget the value of struggle, of hard work, of giving something up, or going without. There is nothing inherently wrong with comfort, but when your desire to consistently remain comfortable impedes your willingness to try new things and grow, then you have fundamentally changed part of what it is to be human. Failure is a part of life. We all fail. We all fail hundreds if not thousands of times in our lives. Get over it! You cannot achieve anything worth while if you are afraid to fail. You must overcome the mental demons, you must rid yourself of negative people, and you must ignore your self-doubt or second-guessing nature. This is true in life and in fitness--Just Do It. When you dont think you can lift that much weight, Just Do It. When you dont think you can run that far or for that long, Just Do It. When you are afraid that the pain will be too great or that the reward might not be worth it, Just Do It. When you hope you will get the new job, promotion, or raise but just arent certain you should try, Just Do It. When you want to ask but are terrified she wont say yes, Just. Do. It. There are far too many people in this world that live in a perennial state of self-doubt and mental paralysis. Imagine what we would be capable of, imagine what our world could become if everyone actually believed themselves fashioned for greatness, AND just did it! Just Do It my friends, and uncover a life greater than your wildest dreams. After all, A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for. -William G.T. Shedd
