QUOTE OF THE DAY: “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content…”- Paul the Apostle. [Php 4:11] LESSON OF THE DAY: SETTLING FOR LESS VS CONTENTMENT. Being contented is very important and health for every human being, Contentment is that state of happiness and satisfaction; it is the quality or state of being contented. I believe you can agree with me that it is rather easy to be content when things are going well. So it is especially interesting to note that the happiest letter Paul ever wrote was penned while he was chained to a Roman solider, waiting for a possible sentence of death. Can you imagine? This same man saying, “Rejoice in the Lord always… and again I say, rejoice” (Phil. 4:4)! I believe we can learn a lot from Paul today. All of us face challenging circumstances. So let us look closely at Paul’s life and see if we can discover the source of his contentedness. Contentment does not mean having a passive, laid-back attitude that just accepts whatever happens without a whimper of protest, nope. CONTENTMENT DOES NOT MEAN SETTLING FOR LESS THAN YOU ARE CAPABLE OF. Let me show you something; a lot of Christians quote the 13th verse of 4th chapter from the epistle of the Philippians by Apostle Paul when he said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengreths me.” But they don’t know is where that statement was coming from. Look at the quote above one more time, Paul had been teaching about being contented, and then verse 13 was a continuation to say, “I am full of gratitude with what I have and who I am even in these current circumstances, and at the same time I know I can do all things through Christ.” Listen, you cannot produce this revelation if you believe that you are a loser or you want to settle for less. True work satisfaction is attainable, and not just for the “lucky few” who seem to "have it all." Contentment comes from within your spirit. You are in charge of assessing and viewing your life, career, or circumstances in a way that will create a contented state of mind. Do not let other people’s achievements or lives make you dissatisfied. PERSONAL DISSATISFACTION CAN CRIPPLE EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE & UNDERMINE THE EFFECTIVENESS of your prayer life, family, friends, businesses etc. Learn to appreciate, be grateful and satisfied with what you have; the family, the pastors, the job or even the phone that you have. Finally brethren, Paul confirmed that he was not sufficient in himself, but his sufficiency was of God (Ref 2 Cor. 3:5). Perhaps it can be explained in this way: there is a fulfillment& satisfaction within us that does not come from us. It is “in me” but it is not “from me.” I pray you easily get this; if your sufficiency is not yourself, but of God, then let your satisfaction be in God not your earthly achievements. That being said, Never settle for less, there is so much ground to be covered; So be expected to achieve more, not relying on your qualifications/ ability but God’s ability in the name of Jesus. In other words, Phip 4:13 can be translated as, “I can do all things, not by my own ability, but by that ability of the anointing of Christ.” My hope & contentment are in God because He is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that I ask or think, according to the power that worketh in me. ALL THE BEST CONTENTED BRETHREN.
